The Spoleto olive oil company was chosen to represent the sustainable model of the extra virgin olive oil supply chain at the opening event of the eighth Week of Italian Cuisine in the World (from 14 to 19 November, over 40 events in major US cities), organized by the Italian Embassy in Washington in collaboration with the American Italian Food Coalition.
In fact, there is no Italian cuisine without extra virgin olive oil: the ingredient, at the basis of our diet and increasingly appreciated all over the world, plays a fundamental role not only on a culinary level but also for our health and for environmental sustainability, themes at the center of the initiative.
Representing the company was the president of Monini North America, Marco Petrini, who gave voice to the important sustainability path undertaken by the Umbrian company in a debate which saw the participation, among others, of the Italian ambassador in the USA, Mariangela Zappia and the general director for hygiene, food safety and nutrition of the Ministry of Health, Ugo Della Marta.
“Sustainability – explains Petrini – is a very concrete focus at Monini: from 2020 to today the company has invested around 13 million euros in projects ranging from field to table, with the aim of contributing to making the olive sector modern, sustainable and resilient to change. One of the most significant projects is Bosco Monini, a new green initiative in various parts of Italy with 1 million olive trees planted and grown according to the organic method and precision technologies. Another important aspect of our commitment certainly concerns dissemination and information, especially outside the Mediterranean, where extra virgin olive oil and its virtues are not yet sufficiently known and adopted“.
Monini “naturally” lends itself to the role of ambassador of Italian extra virgin olive oil in the world: the company exports its products to 71 countries, for roughly half of its total turnover. North America represents one of the most important markets for the group, with over 5.6 million euros in turnover in 2022.
